Astrology - So much more than “what’s your sign?”
Astrology is so much more than “what’s your sign?” Sure, it can be fun to learn about yourself and others by studying a natal chart, but astrology can also help us navigate our external world.
For instance, did you know that in 2020 Jupiter, Saturn and Pluto (three of the outer planets that represent generational energy) crossed astrological paths, beginning new 36, 13 and 20 year cycles? In fact, astrologers across the globe have been looking to 2020 for decades, knowing that humankind was bound to experience some monumental changes affecting life as we know it! And, I think it’s pretty safe to say, we certainly felt what they were anticipating this past year.
Understanding what is happening above can help to explain what you are experiencing here on planet Earth. As we move through astrological seasons you may feel energy, or qualities of a certain sign, which you can use to help set intentions, achieve goals, or simply explain why you are just feeling a certain way. For example, Capricorn season takes place at the beginning of the year (December 22 - January 19). The sign of the seagoat is ambitious and disciplined, a perfect time to set new year's resolutions! Another example is the fire sign of Leo (July 23 - August 22), when it’s summer in the northern hemisphere. We enjoy long summer days with friends, and feel more lively and cheerful, classic traits of the lion.
Also, each planet (and the Sun and Moon) represent different aspects of life, and as they dance through our solar system, they create energies we can feel on Earth. Perhaps you’ve heard of Mercury retrograde? Well, Mercury represents communication, and when it is retrograde (moving in the opposite direction of Earth) we may feel just a little off, or notice our phones and computers not working properly, or even not getting the full story or a situation- total miscommunication.
Personally, I have always loved and been fascinated with astrology, and in recent years I have been studying the subject much more seriously. As my knowledge deepens, I find myself regularly saying things to my friends like, “You know, Mars is squaring Venus right now, which can be contentious energy. They are the celestial lovers and represent relationships with others, so maybe give it a few days and the person you aren’t agreeing with will come around.” Only to have my friends asking questions upon questions, wanting to know where I learned about astrology so they can start studying themselves!
Therefore, I am so, so excited to feature astrology in my monthly newsletter! I plan to share insights on the characteristics of the signs, the aspects of the planets, and how you can put it all together to make sense of your world!
